BSA Troop 356 - History

Troop 356 is very proud of its history and of all the accomplishments of its Scouts. This page shares some of our many accomplishments since our start in 2007.

July 1 - 9	Camp Daniel Boone	In the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Included a visit to an Army base (Fort Jackson, SC) and a stay at a Navy base (Mayport in Jacksonville, FL), plus a guided tour of the aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy.
July 29 - Aug 7	TRIP OF A LIFETIME!	Chicago to Montana to Glacier National Park to Seattle — WHAT A TRIP!

June 30 - July 8	Camp Daniel Boone	In the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina - included stays on an Army base (Fort Jackson in SC) and a Navy base (Mayport in Jacksonville, FL).
July 23 - August 8	World Jamboree	In London, England! Christian D. and Tommy E. went and had a great time!
July 28 - August 4	Montana Trip 2.0	We broke up into two groups. One group hiked 42 miles in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and the other group backpacked and day hiked 10 miles in the Jewel Basin. Great times and high adventure!
August 11	Eagle Service Project	Rand M's Eagle Project painting and renovating six rooms at Florence Fuller.

April 11-13	Sun-N-Fun!	Security duties at Sun-N-Fun, Lakeland, Florida.
April 22	CPR Training	Thanks to Ms. Diane Lea, we successfully trained and certified thirteen scouts and scouters in Child/Adult CPR/AED!
May 2-4	Camp Sawyer	Camp Sawyer, next to Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys! We swam, cooked in Dutch ovens, and had a great time in the Tarpon capital of the world!
May 10	Radio Merit Badge	At SRC and the FAU radio club station. Thanks to Mr. Van Dam for the Scouting ham radio contacts (QSOs)!
June 2-6	Service Project –– Cub Scout Day Camp	Thanks to all the Scouts and parents who helped out, and a special thank you to Mr. Perkins and Miss Kristina for all their hard work!

August 2-11	West 3.0	Our annual westward trek. This year we headed to a ranch outside Durango, Colorado! To quote Mr. Paton, "Lots of altitude. Had great time. Went rafting and took a steam train trip from Durango to Silverton. Hiked for three days, rained each night but we all survived."

October 15	Service Project	Unloading pumpkins for the Pumpkin Patch at Spanish River Church. Thanks to Bobby B., Mitchell B., and Andrew J. for helping out!
October 17-19	Peace River Canoe Trip	A twelve-mile canoe trip on the lovely Peace River in Arcadia, Florida. Dinner was delicious chili for the Scouts and steak for the adults, followed by a campfire program!
October 23	Service Project	Unloading pumpkins for the Pumpkin Patch at Spanish River Church. Thanks to Matt D., Jon E., and Blake A. for helping out!
November 7-9	Flaming Arrow Mini Camp	In Lake Wales. Climbing tower, Merit Badges. Some Pack 356 Webelos came along and had a GREAT time!!!
November 15	SAW at Tanah Keeta	Day trip to Scout Advancement Weekend (SAW) at Tanah Keeta.
December 5-7	Matheson Hammock State Park	Matheson Hammock State Park in Sebring, Florida. We worked on the Bird Study Merit Badge. Andrew J. learned how to make a delicious apple-blueberry cobbler!
December 9	Court of Honor	In the Sunrise Room of the SRC Worship Center. We had a lot of Ranks and Merit Badges to recognize. Congratulations to our new Eagle Scouts!

January 15-17	Campout / Biking	Caloosahatchee — Lee County Park. Seventeen miles of great biking trails plus great campsites and facilities! A repeat of a fun trip! Read the Historian's report here.
February 12-14	Camp Lanoche	BSA Camp Lanoche in Paisley, Florida. Rifle, archery, camping, canoeing, kayaking! The older boys went on a fifteen-mile overnight hike! Everybody was a little cold but we all had lots of fun! Read the Historian's report here.
March 13	Merit Badge College	Day trip to Miramar High School (new location). Merit Badges galore!

April 16-18	Sun 'n Fun	Sun-N-Fun, Lakeland, Florida. This year we not only helped launch hot air balloons, but several Scouts and adults got to ride in the balloons and chase cars! The Friday night air show and the Air Force Thunderbirds were truly amazing, as was Mr. Ely's fantastic smoked ribs and chicken!

April 30	Family BBQ and Fundraiser	For the second year in a row, our Family BBQ and Fundraiser was a big success! Thanks so much to all the Scouts and Adult Scouters who helped!!!
May 14-16	Peace River Canoe Trip	The plans changed several times, but in the end it was worth it — everyone got to see one of the last Space Shuttle launches on Friday, and then had lots of fun canoeing and kayaking on Saturday!
June 8	Annual Family Picnic	Our annual troop picnic at Boca Bath and Tennis clubhouse. As always, good food, good company, good times!.
July 2-11	Camp Daniel Boone	In the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Included a tour of the USS Yorktown and Fort Sumter in Charleston, NC and an overnight stay on the Yorktown on the way up, and a stay at Mayport Navy base in Jacksonville, FL on the way back! September 25, 26	Sailing Merit Badge	At SailLaser Miami, on Biscayne Bay. Two days of learning how to sail and getting the Sailing Merit Badge!
October 15-17	Florida Seabase	In the Florida Keys. One of our key trips — snorkeling, swimming, fishing, games, FUN FUN FUN! We do not have to cook and we sleep in air-conditioned dorms! One of the three BSA High Adventure Bases, here in our back yard!

February 18-21	Olustee Battlefield	We saw a parade, TWO Civil War battle reenactments, and had a great time! The older scouts tried to go on an 18 mile hike but the woods had burned the previous year so they came back early. Better luck next time!
February 22	Pack 356 Crossover	In Spanish River School Chapel. Welcome new Boy Scouts!
February 28	Pack 324 Crossover	At Calusa Elementary School. Welcome new Boy Scouts!
March 8	Court of Honor	Lots of Merit Badges and Advancements to honor, and our new Eagle Scout, Will B.!
March 18	Trip to Miami Airport	Thanks to Mr. McFarland, we got to tour the American Airlines aircraft maintenance facility in Miami!
March 26	Merit Badge College	Back at Barbara Goleman High School in Miami Lakes, we did it as a day trip. Merit Badges galore!
April 1-3	Sun 'n Fun	Security duties at Sun-N-Fun, Lakeland, Florida. Our annual main event! Once again, we helped launch the hot air balloons, and several Scouts got to travel in the chase cars! Our old campground is now a high school, but we managed to figure out a way to camp and have fun. The Navy's Blue Angels put on a fantastic air show, and we got to meet them and get our pictures taken with them!
May 20	Family BBQ and Fundraiser	Our third Family BBQ and Fundraiser was an even bigger success than the previous years! Thanks so much to all the Scouts and Adult Scouters who helped!!!
May 24	Family Bowling Night	At Strikes (formerly Don Carter Lanes) in Boca Raton.
Tuesday, June 7	Troop 356 Annual BBQ	At Boca Bath and Tennis Clubhouse.
July 2-10	Camp Daniel Boone	In the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Our annual summer camp trip!
September 10	Project Eagle Merit Badge Workshop	An opportunity to earn merit badges right here in Boca Raton! This was not an official troop event.
September 24	Andrew J's Eagle Project	At Florence Fuller Child Development Center. Thanks to so many people showing up, we finished hours ahead of schedule! Historian's report: "The day started off with everyone putting mulch down or putting together the benches or digging holes for the benches. We then got split into two groups: one would pour the concrete for the benches while the others would install slats on a fence. Lastly, we planted some plants and repainted a gate. Overall, I think that everyone had a good time. Submitted by Kiernan G., Troop Historian"
September 30 - October 2	USS Spruance Commissioning	A VERY special trip! We were invited to be present at the commissioning of a BRAND NEW Navy Destroyer, the USS Spruance, in Key West. We stayed at "Secret Base X" and enjoyed a refreshing swim. Several people had success fishing, catching tarpon and a very nice bull dolphin! Read the report from Troop Historian Kiernan G. here.
October 21-23	Florida Sea Base	In the Florida Keys. One of our key trips — snorkeling, swimming, fishing, games, FUN FUN FUN! We do not have to cook and we sleep in air-conditioned dorms! One of the three BSA High Adventure Bases, here in our back yard! This year we had a three-day weekend, so we left early Friday morning to fit in even more fun!
November 18-20	SAW at Tanah Keeta	Day trip to Scout Advancement Weekend (SAW) at Tanah Keeta.
December 2-4	Camp Flaming Arrow	In Lake Wales. We camped out and had a great time on the climbing wall! Even the Webeloes who came with us were climbing! Logan's white chili was a hit at dinner time, even the adults were coming over for a taste!
December 13	Troop Christmas Party	Our annual Troop 356 Christmas Party!
